Frequently asked questions
How do I create a house?
Open the app, sign up, and tap "Create a house". You'll get an invite code to share with your housemates so they can join the same house.
How do I invite housemates?
Go to your Profile and share your house invite code — there's a Share button. Housemates enter that code when they join a house.
How are points decided?
Each chore is worth points based on how big the job is. Tougher or longer chores like cleaning the oven are worth more than quick ones like taking the bins out. You can adjust any chore's points in the Chore Bank.
How does chore rotation work?
Turn on "Alternate this chore" when adding or editing a chore with more than one person assigned. CleanMates then rotates it between them automatically, so the same person isn't always on the same job.
Does CleanMates handle money?
No. The spending features record what things cost and suggest who should pay who back, but no money ever moves through the app. Settling up happens directly between housemates. If you add a payment link such as Monzo.me, that's simply displayed to your house — we never see or store bank details.
Can I use it on both iPhone and Android?
CleanMates is on the App Store now, and an Android version is in preparation. Housemates on different devices will be able to share the same house using the same invite code.
How do I turn off chore photos?
Go to Profile → Appearance → "Show chore photos" to hide photos. You can also report a photo by opening it and tapping Report.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → "Delete my account". This permanently removes your account and your data. Full details, including how to request deletion by email, are on our delete your account page.
A housemate posted something inappropriate — what do I do?
Open the photo and tap Report, or turn photos off in Profile. You can also email us at support@fluxdevelopments.co.uk and we'll act on it.
What are the deals in the app?
They're affiliate links to third-party retailers. If you buy something after tapping one, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We label this in the app and explain it in our Privacy Policy.
