Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the CleanMates mobile application ("App"), operated by Flux Developments Ltd ("we", "us", or "our"), a company registered in England and Wales. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use CleanMates. By using the App you confirm that you meet this requirement. The App is intended for use in the United Kingdom.

2. Your account

• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
• Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
• Upload photos or content that is offensive, explicit, or harassing.
• Attempt to access another user's account or data.
• Reverse engineer, copy, or distribute the App or its code.
• Use the App in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its operation.

4. Shared house features

CleanMates allows you to create or join a shared house with other users. By joining a house, your display name, chore completions, points, message board activity, recorded spending and any photos you upload as proof are visible to all members of that house. You can leave a house at any time from your profile settings. House creators can manage members and chores within that house.

5. Photos and content

When you upload a photo as chore completion proof, you grant us a limited licence to store and display that photo to members of your house. You retain ownership of your photos. Do not upload photos containing other people without their consent, or any content that is inappropriate or unlawful.

6. Household spending features

CleanMates lets you record what household items and bills cost, who paid, and settle-up transfers between housemates. These records are for information only. CleanMates does not process, hold, or transfer money, and is not a payment service. Any money that changes hands does so directly between you and your housemates, outside the App. We are not responsible for the accuracy of figures entered by users, or for any dispute arising from them.

7. Deals, Supplies and affiliate links

The Deals tab and the Supplies tab contain affiliate links to third-party retailers. When you tap one, you are directed to that retailer to complete any purchase. CleanMates is not the seller, does not process payments and does not fulfil orders — your purchase is governed entirely by the retailer's own terms and conditions.

We participate in the Awin affiliate network and the Amazon EU Associates Programme. We may earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through these links, at no additional cost to you. We record which deals and products are tapped in order to understand demand and attribute referrals, but we do not receive your payment or order details. Any discounts, prices or offers shown are set by the retailer and may change or expire without notice.

8. Energy referrals (Move In tab)

If you submit a request via the Move In tab, your details will be shared with our partner Do Energy / Student Energy Group to process that referral. This is entirely optional. We may receive a referral fee if you sign up with them. This feature is not active in all versions of the App.

9. Intellectual property

All content, design, and code within the App is owned by Flux Developments Ltd or its licensors. You may not reproduce or distribute any part of the App without our written permission.

10. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is". We make no warranties, express or implied, about the reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose of the App. We are not responsible for any disputes between housemates arising from use of the App.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Flux Developments Ltd is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, which for a free service is £0. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under English law.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms. You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings. On termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or by email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
