Scoreboard, scoresheet and club organiser for volleyball

SideOut is a volleyball app for the people who actually run the game: whoever is holding the scoreboard on the sideline, the captain who has to hand in a signed scoresheet at the end of the match, and the coach trying to work out who is turning up on Thursday. It keeps score with proper FIVB rules, produces an official-format scoresheet you can print or email as a PDF, tracks your match history and rating over time, runs tournaments, and gives clubs a place to organise training, fixtures and squads. It is built for recreational players, league teams and clubs in the UK, and the scoring works offline in a sports hall with no signal.

What it does

Scoring a match

• Live scoreboard with rotation tracking, so you always know who is serving and where everyone should be standing.
• Supports 5-1, 4-2 and 6-2 systems, with the libero handled outside the six.
• Real volleyball rules built in: win by two, a deciding set to 15, two timeouts per team per set.
• Timeouts are recorded against the score they were taken at, with a 30-second countdown on the scoreboard.
• Substitutions, undo, and a point-by-point record of how each set was won.
• Keeps working with no signal.

The scoresheet

• Generates an official-format scoresheet: starting six by shirt number, service rounds, the points ladder, timeouts, substitutions, sanctions and the results table.
• Signature capture on screen for referees and captains.
• Export as a PDF to print, or send it straight from your phone's own mail app.
• League and competition details are remembered between matches, so week two is just signatures.

Sessions and players

• Start a session and let everyone else join by code or by scanning a QR code.
• Balanced team picking from the players in the session.
• Player profiles with court positions and shirt numbers.

Tournaments

• Round robin and knockout formats.
• Seeding, either automatic from SideOut ratings or set by hand.
• Full placement playoffs, so every team finishes with a real position rather than just being knocked out.
• Score validation that will not accept an impossible set.

Your record

• Match history and stats built from the matches you have actually played.
• A SideOut level, and a rating that moves depending on the standard of the people you play against.
• Best squad by court position, and a shareable SideOut Wrapped card summarising your season.

SideOut Clubs

• A club with multiple teams, each with its own roster and shirt numbers.
• Members join with a club code and are approved by an admin before they can see anything.
• Roles that mean something: club admin, team manager, coach and player, each with different powers.
• Training sessions and fixtures with date, time, location and a named host, plus replies so you know who is coming and who has not answered.
• A session can invite more than one team, or name individual players from across the club, for joint training and inter-club events.
• A comment thread on every session, so "which court?" stops living in the group chat.
• A lineup planner for the starting six, including partial lineups for setting up drills.
• Private coaching notes, visible only to that team's staff unless a coach deliberately shares one with the player it is about.
